09:30 am Visit to Mehrangarh Fort
One of the largest forts of Rajasthan, the Mehrangarh Fort is perched atop a hill in a majestic stance overlooking the city. There is a circular road leading to the Fort. The visitors need to cross 7 impressive gates to reach this stunning fort. The Fort also houses several palaces, like the famous Moti Mahal, and many others. Stunning courtyards with palace windows opening inside offers a magnificent look. The Shringar Chowki is one of the most impressive attractions beckoning a large number of tourists. The skill and hard labour of sculptors are clearly evident in the fort and its various artifacts.
12:30 pm: Visit to Jaswant Thada
Jaswant Thada is located close to the Mehrangarh Fort. Built in the 19th century, this is basically a cenotaph, of erstwhile Jodhpur royalties. It is a famous Jodhpur landmark that is known for its architectural brilliance. This monument has been constructed in white marble carved with intricate and skilled work. When the rays of the sun fall on this magnificent monument, it shines with golden hues.
2 pm: Time free for lunch
3 pm: Visit to Umaid Bhavan Palace
A beautiful Royal residence, tourists finds this palace a stunning example of architecture. This Palace was designed by the famous architect Henry Vaughan Lanchester and the work to construct this palace came into existence for the purpose of providing employment for the draught ridden citizens of Jodhpur and nearby areas. Chittar sandstone has been used to create this magnificent palace. Today, half of the palace has been converted into a hotel, while in the other half, the present royal family still resides.
Umaid Bhavan Palace Museum
This is one of the prominent museums located in the city. The museum houses an extensive range of royal artifacts that used to belong to the erstwhile royalties and their families. Some of the major items displayed in the museum are stuffed leopards, weapons, crockery, antiques, etc.
One of the major lakes in the city, the Balsammand Lake is famous as a picnic spot. Located almost seven Kms away from the main city, this is an artificial lake that was built in 1159 AD. This beautiful lake is surrounded by hills from all sides and provides a stunning view of the nature’s marvels. Close to the lake, the beautiful Balsammand Palace is situated. The unique feature of this palace is its eight pillars. In 1936, the palace was built as a summer pavilion by Maharaja Sur Singh. The verdant gardens and well manicured rose beds surrounding the palace provide it with stunning beauty.
